Falklands donations to Uruguayan and Chilean charities Covid-19
The Falkland Islands government had made donations to Uruguayan and Chilean Covid-19 charities which support Covid victims in both countries. The decision was approved this week by the Standing Finance Committee and involved £5,000 each to the organizations of the two South American neighbours.
Similarly, a food bank donation of £10,000 was made to the John Cheek Trust.
MP-elect Ian Hansen pointed out that although it is called a food bank, the system is more inclusive and does not just provide food aid.
Committee members also approved the Falklands Landholdings Budget, which does not include any government support. The Committee was informed that FLH currently has 2.5 times its annual operating budget in reserves and is therefore able to use these reserves to fund the 2020/21 budget.
