$9.6 million in strategic grants awarded to organizations focused on first responder programs and technology and engineering training
Through its annual grant cycle, funding for the First Responders Mental Health Foundation has increased by 85%, recognizing the critical role it plays in enabling first responders to support their communities. Through initiatives that provide wellness and stress management training, scholarships to families of deceased first responders and more, the Foundation strives to have a direct impact on the availability of resources for first responders and their families.
“The Motorola Solutions Foundations partnership has given us the opportunity to host Camp April, the first bereavement camp exclusively for family members of officers who have died by suicide,” said Karen Solomon, co-founder of Blue HELP. “The Foundation stood firm from the start and let the families know how important their agent’s life was. We are honored to continue to work with an organization that so publicly and willingly supports all first responders and the sum total of their lives and service.
Funding from the Foundation for Technology and Engineering Education was also significant. Partnering with organizations that engage students through hands-on engineering activities like design, coding, and robotics, the Foundation continued its commitment to making these programs more accessible, awarding more than $1 million in scholarships for underrepresented people in STEM. Additionally, 60% of its funding in this area directly supported women and 78% directly benefited people of color.
Over $400,000 allocated to communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises
The Foundation has donated more than $300,000 to help disaster-affected communities with critical supplies and lifesaving medical resources. Additionally, the Foundation and the Motorolans have collectively donated over $100,000 to the American Red Cross to provide supplies and support volunteer teams on the ground during the COVID-19 crisis in India.
60% increase in employee volunteering
Despite the pandemic, Motorolans have never been shy about finding meaningful ways to give back. Employees from more than 40 countries volunteered nearly 65,000 hours, the majority during Global Months of Service, the Foundation’s volunteer marathon in September and October. In addition, employees requested nearly $800,000 in matching donations for charitable donations through the “Dons for Donors” program.
“This year has revealed how ingrained generosity and giving are in our culture,” said Karem Perez, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “I am impressed by our employees’ determination to give back and am incredibly proud of the impact the Foundation and the Motorolans collectively continue to have in our communities around the world.”
